Welcome to Grade 4

The 4th grade at St. Mary’s Parish School is an exciting challenging year of changes! The children will switch classes for math and science. They will now be instructed in both science and social studies every day and they will utilize an assignment book daily to help with organization and responsibility.
The curriculum for social studies is the regions of the United States as well as our level of government. In language arts, the children are continuing to build and expand important grammar and writing skills, reading, listening, and speaking skills. The students will become more proficient at restating and paraphrasing expository text. The 4th graders have a set spelling program by Houghton Mifflin that exposes them to 30 new words each week. The focus of daily religion class is the Beatitudes and the Ten Commandments.
Math and science are taught by the specialized fifth grade teacher. In math, the students are expanding on the four basic operations, an introduction to fractions and geometry work. In science, the students study Life, Earth, and Physical Science with an emphasis on next generation science standards.
