Third grade at St. Mary’s Parish School is the last self-contained grade in the school before the children begin switching classes. We work on all subject areas right in the classroom.
We spend most of our focus in the areas of Math and Reading/Language Arts. During the year in Math, we focus on place value, addition and subtraction with regrouping, and multiplication and division. As for Reading and Language Arts, we work a lot with grammar and improving our writing skills, as well as using vocabulary and increasing our comprehension of stories we read in our “Journey’s” anthology.
We alternate units between Science and Social Studies, as we are beginning to focus on locating information in these expository texts. During the year in Science we focus mostly on Life Science with a little bit of Earth Science. In Social Studies, our main focus is on Communities and local and National Government.
Our Religion curriculum talks about the Sacraments of Christian Initiation, loving our neighbor, and building our church community. We talk a lot about being kind and treating others as we would like to be treated.
